I believe it's time we officially recognize a superhero we all know. This person walks among us every day, yet we might not realize we are standing shoulder-to-shoulder with such mighty greatness and power.
Let me share a few tips on what to watch for to help identify these heroes. You will often see them managing more than a dozen open windows in their internet browser while also checking emails, balancing a budget, planning a week's worth of dinners, and writing a book they haven't told anyone about.
You can further spot them by the errands they run after planning the most fuel-efficient path or crossing off their to-do list all day long. Many of them include working eight to ten hours per day on top of that. They might be shuffling kids or pets from one place to another or volunteering.
Whatever they are up to, likely, you're only seeing a small percentage of their full week. Chances are you are internally applauding them and wish you could be more like them. Well, hold up the mirror because here's the big headline. YOU ARE A SUPERHERO.
We all carry such crazy heavy loads these days. Many of us put that expectation on ourselves and think our value is tied to getting things done. It's not. You are valuable simply because you exist.
Be kind to yourself. Let something wait an extra day or two if you need to rearrange your priorities for a moment, a day, or a week. Nobody will judge you for that, and I dare say, many will respect you for it. Be an example to those who are watching, wondering how you balance it all without going stir-crazy. You've got this, whatever it is.
If you find yourself struggling to get everything done without losing yourself, put down one or two of the juggling balls. Call a friend, be a friend. That might be the best thing you can do.
